How we review a UK casino

Our twelve-step editorial method, the scoring behind every card on this site, and a plain-English note on how an affiliate-funded journal stays independent.

Who we are

LuckyReelWorld is a small British editorial team — six editors between London and Manchester — that reviews UK-licensed online casinos for a British audience. We have backgrounds in consumer finance journalism, iGaming compliance and product review writing. Three of us have worked inside licensed operators, which is useful because we know where the bodies are buried.

We publish one issue a month and re-test every operator we cover at least once a quarter. The byline "The LuckyReelWorld desk" means two or more editors have signed off a piece.

The twelve-step method

Every casino review on this site follows the same twelve-step checklist. The order matters. If a casino fails step one, we do not publish anything at all.

  1. Licence check. Verify an active GB licence on the Gambling Commission public register.
  2. Ownership & history. Who runs the operator, and have they been sanctioned in the last three years?
  3. Signup flow. Editor-led, real-name registration from a UK residential address.
  4. Bonus-terms reading. Line-by-line review of welcome offer terms, flagged for wagering, weighting and caps.
  5. Deposit test. Real £50 deposit by UK debit card; any flags, friction or card declines logged.
  6. Game lobby audit. Slot, table, live dealer and jackpot coverage. We list studios we recognise, and flag any we do not.
  7. Mobile test. Full review on iOS and Android, both in-browser and via the native app where one exists.
  8. Customer support. Two editor-led live chat queries, timed and rated on answer quality.
  9. Safer-gambling audit. Deposit limits, reality checks, self-exclusion, GAMSTOP integration and signposting to GamCare and BeGambleAware.
  10. KYC test. Full identity verification before cash-out, documents and timings logged.
  11. Withdrawal test. Real cash-out by debit card or e-wallet, timed from request to arrival.
  12. Second read. A second editor re-runs the checklist before the review is cleared for publication.

How the score works

The star rating on each casino card is a blended measure across five pillars. Each pillar is scored out of 5 by a lead editor and cross-checked by a second editor before the score goes live.

PillarWeightWhat we look at
Trust & safety25%Licence, operator history, responsible-gambling tools.
Bonus fairness20%Wagering multipliers, game weighting, clarity of terms.
Payouts20%Measured withdrawal speed, fees and method support.
Games & software20%Studio breadth, RTP visibility, mobile performance.
Service15%Support response, complaints handling, UX polish.

How we make money

LuckyReelWorld is funded by affiliate commission. When a reader follows a link from this site to a casino and opens an account, the operator may pay us a commission. This is how almost every independent UK casino review publication operates. The important bit is what we do with the arrangement.

Editorial decisions are made before any commercial conversation with an operator. Operators cannot pay for a better rank, a better score, or a more generous review.

Every page on this site that includes commercial links is marked with an editorial disclosure, and we list the operator licence number alongside the review so you can check it on the Gambling Commission register.

Contact the editors

Questions, corrections, right-of-reply requests or tip-offs about an operator are all welcome. Editors read every message and reply within two working days.
